The Oka’ Institute at East Central University, in partnership with the Chickasaw Nation, Hazen, and the City of Ada, will host the Land Stewardship and Field Research Workshop on June 29–30 in Ada, Oklahoma. Registration is now open for participants interested in applied land management, ecology, prescribed fire, and environmental field research.
This two-day hands-on workshop will bring together researchers, students, land managers, conservation professionals, and community partners to explore practical approaches to land stewardship, prescribed fire, ecology, watershed management, and applied environmental field research. Designed to connect science-based research with real-world land management applications, the workshop will feature presentations, collaborative discussions, and outdoor field experiences focused on sustainable land and natural resource management.
Day one will include presentations and research discussions highlighting topics such as prescribed fire planning, GIS mapping, water quality modeling, ecosystem monitoring, and ongoing stewardship efforts taking place across Oklahoma. Participants will hear from experts and partners involved in applied conservation and land management initiatives while learning about collaborative projects involving the City of Ada property and regional research efforts.
Day two will transition into the field, where attendees will participate in outdoor demonstrations and field activities related to prescribed fire, monitoring strategies, and land management practices. The field experience will provide participants with the opportunity to see stewardship principles and environmental research methods applied directly on the landscape.
The workshop reflects the growing importance of collaboration between communities, researchers, tribal partners, and land managers to address land stewardship and natural resource challenges across Oklahoma and the Southern Plains.
Participants can register now to reserve their spot. Additional event details and the full agenda will be released soon.
