WATER PLANNING

The Oka' Institute is committed to advancing sustainable water planning that ensures long-term water security and resilience for communities. By integrating innovative research, data-driven strategies, and collaborative partnerships, we address critical challenges in water resource management. Our focus on planning emphasizes proactive solutions, including regional water system optimization, drought mitigation, infrastructure resilience, and resource allocation that balance environmental, economic, and social priorities. Through comprehensive water planning, we strive to create sustainable systems that support growth, preserve ecosystems, and secure water availability for future generations.

WATER POLICY

Oka’ is leading a $5 million, eight-year study to better understand and protect the Arbuckle-Simpson Aquifer. Building on earlier research, this effort includes monitoring springs, streams, and wells to create a detailed hydrologic model—providing critical data for sustainable water use and planning.

DROUGHT CONTINGENCY

Ada, the Chickasaw Nation, Oka’, and OSU are testing low-cost methods to recharge the Arbuckle-Simpson Aquifer using stormwater. This approach supports water sustainability and offers research opportunities for ECU students.
