Flowing Forward: Renewing Our Commitment to Water in the New Year

ree

As the calendar turns and a new year begins, reflection naturally flows into renewal. At the Oka’ Institute, we enter 2026 with a deep sense of gratitude for what has been accomplished and an even stronger commitment to what lies ahead. The past year has been a testament to collaboration, perseverance, and shared purpose. Together with our partners, we have continued to strengthen communities, protect resources, and build a more resilient water future for Oklahoma.

Water has always been a powerful teacher. It moves with intention, adapts to change, and reminds us that progress often happens through steady persistence. This past year, we witnessed that same resilience in the communities we serve. Local leaders, tribal partners, and regional organizations came together to plan, invest, and take measurable steps toward sustainable water solutions. Their efforts continue to prove that meaningful change begins with collaboration and a shared belief in the value of water.

Looking forward, 2026 will be another year of growth and impact. The Oka’ Institute remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the Chickasaw Nation, East Central University, and our many regional collaborators who are helping rural communities secure water infrastructure funding and plan for long term needs. Our technical assistance work will continue to help communities identify priorities, strengthen local capacity, and prepare for the future.

We are also looking ahead to the next John and Kay Hargrave Water Sustainability Conference, where we will once again bring together leaders, students, and professionals to unite around a shared goal of protecting Oklahoma’s water. Events like Oka’ Con are more than gatherings. They are opportunities to learn, build relationships, and spark new ideas that carry forward long after the conference ends.

As we step into this new year, we carry with us the lessons of the past and the promise of what is possible. Water reminds us that renewal is not just about starting over. It is about continuing to move forward with purpose and connection.

From everyone at the Oka’ Institute, thank you for being part of our mission. Your support and collaboration make this work possible. May 2026 be a year of resilience, restoration, and continued flow toward a sustainable water future for all.
